Issues such as sustainability and the use of resources are currently more important than ever and on everyone’s lips. At COFERMIN, we take our responsibility very seriously, and today I would like to explain transparently how we are addressing the issue of carbon footprint.
MINERALS offers a first-class portfolio of raw materials for the steel, refractory, and foundry industries, as well as related services. The wide selection, especially of Chinese raw materials such as magnesia, Al2O3 minerals, and graphite, complements the COFERMIN Group’s first-class range of minerals and ores.
As a company operating in the field of raw material supply, we face the challenge that our products and processes are inherently energy-intensive. From extraction and processing to transportation, all of these steps have a significant impact on our carbon footprint. We are also aware that the extraction and processing of raw materials are always the focus of critical discussions.

Our approach
To address this issue, we consider the carbon footprint on two levels: at the product level and at the company level. We do not rely on our own calculations, but on data from our suppliers, which we supplement with additional information, particularly from logistics. Our goal is to offer complete transparency regarding the carbon footprint of our products in order to be accountable to our customers and society.
At the company level, we are able to exert direct influence. We collect data on our own emissions and are constantly looking for ways to reduce them.
However, the largest part of our carbon footprint is naturally linked to our products. Here, we focus on transparency and the sharing of information in order to raise awareness and identify potential savings along the supply chain.
As a distributor, our main responsibility is to collect data from our suppliers, enrich it, pass it on to our customers, and raise their awareness. This transparency is crucial for creating understanding of the complex interrelationships and enabling informed decisions. We see it as our task not only to supply products, but also to act as a trusted partner for our customers and suppliers, actively contributing to a more sustainable future.
I am convinced that the issue of carbon footprints will become even more important in the future and will influence our choice of suppliers and partners. In the future, our society will no longer focus solely on price and quality, but increasingly on environmental performance. COFERMIN is ready to help shape this path and contribute to a more sustainable supply of raw materials through innovation and cooperation. We see our commitment to sustainability as an opportunity to create ecological and economic value. By focusing on innovative solutions and sustainable practices, we want to minimize our carbon footprint and have a positive impact on the entire industry and ultimately on our planet.
This mindset plays a major role at our company, and every employee is involved in promoting the issue, improving, and setting a good example. We are currently working on a sustainability report on this topic, which we will be happy to present to you in the coming months.
