COFERMIN and sustainability
Our ESG statement
For us, sustainability is a binding standard that guides our business activities. We take responsibility throughout our global value chains and integrate environmental, social, and economic considerations into a holistic approach. Through transparency, innovation, and collaborative partnerships, we create sustainable opportunities for our employees, our customers, and future generations.
Our commitment to sustainability at COFERMIN
Sustainability has been firmly embedded in the COFERMIN Group’s corporate strategy since 2022. With the first ESG Report in 2023, key sustainability goals were defined and communicated transparently. The 2025 ESG Report continues along this path: as the third report in a row, it documents the Group’s key initiatives, progress, and development trends. This is based on a comprehensive stakeholder analysis, an examination of the 17 Sustainable Development Goals, and the three impact areas of environment, social issues, and corporate governance. During the reporting year, an additional position was also created in the ESG department to further drive the implementation of the ESG strategy in a structured manner.

WATER IS RIGHT
COFERMIN continues to work closely with Water Is Right to promote clean water and resource conservation. Three Water Is Right water dispensers are in use at the Essen site. During the reporting year, approximately 8,750 liters of drinking water were dispensed through them. This is equivalent to avoiding the use of approximately 17,500 single-use 0.5-liter bottles. In the coming years, existing donation initiatives will be continued, and additional cooperation opportunities will be explored.
Areas of activity
The COFERMIN Group continuously reviews, refines, and supplements the sustainability goals defined in 2023 as needed. The focus is on actively supporting the United Nations’ 17 Sustainable Development Goals—with a particular emphasis on the environment, social issues, and responsible corporate governance. The COFERMIN Group’s three areas of impact are derived from this work.
Areas of activity
Environment
In the area of environmental impact, COFERMIN is working to improve CO₂ transparency, build resilient and sustainable supply chains, conserve resources, and increase energy efficiency. This includes expanding the PCF database, refining data collection processes, and implementing concrete measures such as certified green electricity, water dispensers, and energy-efficient solutions at its locations.
Areas of activity
Social affairs
The Social Well-being initiative focuses on health, safety, professional development, and personal growth. Mandatory digital safety briefings and health training sessions, workshops on corporate culture, and structured professional development programs enhance knowledge, engagement, and well-being in the workplace.
Areas of activity
Corporate management
In the area of corporate management, COFERMIN strengthens governance structures, transparency, and a shared understanding of values. This includes the further development of a group-wide mission statement, sustainable procurement, the expansion of secondary raw materials, digital processes, and resilient partnerships throughout the supply chain.
The focus of the COFERMIN GROUP
The COFERMIN Group’s current sustainability efforts in the environmental sphere focus on CO₂ transparency, sustainable supply chains, and energy efficiency. With MFF dispensing technology, the company has also introduced modular solutions that reduce single-use packaging and dispensing losses at events. In the social sphere, COFERMIN has digitized its occupational safety training and continues to offer targeted workshops, seminars, and e-learning formats. In corporate management, the focus is on a group-wide mission statement, the circular economy, sustainable procurement, and data-driven processes in the supply chain. This includes new ERP functions for querying PCF-relevant data from suppliers. For the second year in a row, COFERMIN was also recognized by EcoVadis; COFERMIN Chemicals received Silver status.

Our Goals
In the coming years, we plan to further expand our internal PCF database, have our proprietary calculation methodology externally validated, and gradually roll out the revised supplier evaluation process across the entire group. At the same time, the agenda includes the complete transition of all locations to certified green electricity, a cross-location waste and energy strategy, the expansion of health-promoting measures, and the further structuring of training and continuing education programs. The establishment of a COFERMIN library and the greater integration of sustainability criteria into procurement and supplier selection are also among the next steps.
“Our goal is to strike a balance between competitiveness, environmental responsibility, and social impact. The Sustainable Development Goals provide us with a binding framework for this, while our ESG‑reporting creates a clear and transparent foundation for all stakeholders and shareholders.”
Acting sustainably, today and in the future!
