Andalusite is a key component in various industrial processes. From the steel to the aluminum industry, it is an important element for refractory applications. Of course, there are also alternatives such as mullite or bauxite, but these have to be refined using large amounts of energy before they can be used.
For us, reliability has several facets. Based on current consumption, our andalusite reserves will last another 45 years. A concrete example of this is the well-known and planned power outages in South Africa, where the state-owned energy supplier is often unable to provide sufficient electricity. To avoid interruptions in production, investments have recently been made in diesel generators that kick in immediately as soon as the power supply fails.
